Prime Video has confirmed We Were Liars, the upcoming mystery thriller series based on E. Lockhart’s best-selling novel will debut on June 18, 2025. All eight episodes will be available, streaming exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Set against the backdrop of a secluded private island off the coast of New England, We Were Liars centers on Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her close-knit group of friends, known as the Liars. The Sinclair family—wealthy, attractive, and tightly bonded—appears to have it all. But when a tragic accident upends Cadence’s world, secrets begin to surface, and trust among the Liars starts to unravel.
The cast includes Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence Sinclair Eastman, Shubham Maheshwari as Gat Patil, Esther McGregor as Mirren Sinclair Sheffield, and Joseph Zada as Johnny Sinclair Dennis. Also starring are Caitlin FitzGerald (Penny Sinclair), Mamie Gummer (Carrie Sinclair), Candice King (Bess Sinclair), Rahul Kohli (Ed Patil), and David Morse (Harris Sinclair).
The series is helmed by co-showrunners Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, Legacies) and Carina Adly MacKenzie (Roswell, New Mexico, The Originals), who also serve as writers and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Emily Cummins (The Endgame, Vampire Academy) for My So-Called Company, and E. Lockhart, author of the original novel. The show is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Amazon MGM Studios. The novel is published by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books.
