Pulp announce BBC radio gigs
Here's how you can get tickets to see Pulp in concert for BBC Radio 2.
Pulp are set to deliver two exclusive live performances for BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 In Concert this May.
Both sessions will be recorded at the iconic BBC Radio Theatre at Broadcasting House in London. The band will play a mix of fan favourites and new material from their forthcoming album, More.
The 6 Music session, titled 6 Music Session: Pulp Live, will air during Nick Grimshaw’s show on Thursday 29 May (7–10am) on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds. The broadcast will also include a special interview with the band. This follows the station’s world premiere of their latest single, "Spike Island," which debuted on Lauren Laverne’s show on Thursday 10 April.
For Radio 2 In Concert, Pulp will perform on Wednesday 7 May in front of an intimate audience of fans at the BBC Radio Theatre. This performance will be broadcast on Jo Whiley’s show on Thursday 29 May (7–9pm) on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, along with an interview. Additionally, highlights from the session will be featured on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show (6.30–9.30am) on Friday 30 May, with exclusive tracks airing from 9am.
Pulp’s 6 Music performance will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer from Thursday 29 May and will remain available on demand for 30 days.
The Radio 2 In Concert session will be televised on BBC Two in June and will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
Jarvis Cocker of Pulp, says: “We are really looking forward to this. From my time at 6 Music, I remember that the BBC Radio Theatre is a very intimate venue. As long as we can fit all our equipment in there it’s going to be great to play some songs for Radio 2 and 6 Music.”
Nick Grimshaw says: “It was amazing to hear Pulp’s new music exclusively on Lauren’s show last week. I’m so excited to hear more from their new album as part of their 6 Music session and to speak to the band about the process of writing and recording their first album in almost 24 years.”
Jo Whiley says: “I have been a fan of Pulp for as long as I have been presenting on the radio, and it’s a joy to still be following their hugely successful career all these years later. I’m so looking forward to hearing all those songs that have such personal significance to me - and to our Radio 2 listeners - as they play to a small audience of lucky fans in the BBC Radio Theatre next month.”
Jeff Smith, Head of Music for Radio 2 and 6 Music, says: “Pulp are one of the UK’s most loved bands, with a steady stream of hits and songs that have grown in popularity and status over the years. I’m delighted that the band have agreed to give the BBC two contrasting sets, one for Radio 2 appealing to musical mainstream audiences and another for 6 Music whose listeners’ tastes lie beyond the mainstream.”
Tickets for Radio 2 In Concert will be allocated via a ballot which opens for registrations from 8.30am on Tuesday 15 April and closes at 11.59pm on Tuesday 22 April at www.bbc.co.uk/inconcert.
