Keala Settle, Brian Cox, Daniel Mays and more confirmed for BBC VE Day special

The BBC has announced VE Day 80: A Celebration to Remember — a spectacular live concert commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

Broadcasting live from London’s iconic Horse Guards Parade, this unmissable event airs on Thursday 8 May from 8pm to 10pm on BBC One and iPlayer, hosted by the inimitable Zoe Ball.

As the grand finale of the UK’s VE Day 80 celebrations, the concert promises a powerful evening of music, storytelling, and heartfelt tributes — a moving homage to the courage and sacrifice of those who lived through and served in World War II.

A glittering lineup of performers will take to the stage, including Samantha Barks, Fleur East, John Newman, Victor Ray, Freya Ridings, Keala Settle, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Calum Scott, The Darkness, Toploader, Tom Walker, and the legendary Sir Willard White.

Adding flair and emotion to the performances, Strictly Come Dancing stars Amy Dowden, Carlos Gu, Karen Hauer, Neil Jones, Lauren Oakley, and Kai Widdrington will dazzle with a stunning choreographed number, opening the concert alongside Fleur East.

The evening also features special appearances from beloved British icons. Dame Joan Collins, Dame Mary Berry, and Dame Sheila Hancock will share their reflections, while acclaimed actor Brian Cox will deliver a powerful reenactment of Winston Churchill’s historic wartime address.

Fans of classic comedy will enjoy a special revival of Dad’s Army, brought to life by an all-star cast including Kevin Eldon, Iain Glen, Nigel Havers, Sir Derek Jacobi, Larry Lamb, Alex Macqueen, and Daniel Mays.

Throughout the night, World War II veterans and wartime heroes will share personal stories of courage, love, and hope, painting a vivid picture of the resilience and joy that came with peace.

Accompanied by a full live orchestra, the evening will feature stirring renditions of wartime favourites, including Calum Scott’s moving performance of The White Cliffs of Dover and a powerful rendition of We’ll Meet Again by West End star Samantha Barks.

Zoe Ball shares:
“It’s a true honour to be part of this incredible tribute. My dad, Johnny Ball, was just six years old on VE Day and his stories have always stayed with me. This night will be a heartfelt celebration of the generations who gave so much. Their bravery shaped our future — and this concert will be a truly special way to remember and thank them.”
