Vince Vaughn to return in fan favourite comedy series.
Apple TV+ has officially renewed its hit comedy series Bad Monkey for a second season following the critical acclaim and Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its debut season. Created by award-winning executive producer Bill Lawrence and starring Vince Vaughn, who also serves as an executive producer, the show has quickly become a fan favorite.
“Author Carl Hiaasen has been a huge inspiration for me as a writer and remains an idol of mine,” said showrunner and executive producer Bill Lawrence. “Getting to continue telling his story with Vince Vaughn and this amazing cast—at least the characters who survived—is a dream come true. I’m incredibly grateful to Apple TV+, Warner Bros., and the entire team who brings this show to life.”
“Since its debut, Bad Monkey has captivated audiences and become an instant fan favorite,” said Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+ head of programming. “With Vince Vaughn leading as Andrew Yancy and supported by an exceptional ensemble cast, we can’t wait for viewers to dive into more of Bill Lawrence’s sun-soaked, laugh-out-loud murder-mystery as the series heats up in its next chapter.”
Since its launch, Bad Monkey has been praised as “the surprise hit TV show of 2024” and “a must-watch binge-worthy series.” Vince Vaughn’s portrayal of Andrew Yancy has been described as “a standout performance” in “a role perfectly suited for him.” Based on Carl Hiaasen’s bestselling novel of the same name, the series has been celebrated for capturing Hiaasen’s unique comedic style, as well as its stellar cast, engaging soundtrack, and laugh-out-loud moments.
The story follows Andrew Yancy (played by Vaughn), a former Miami detective turned health inspector in the Florida Keys. Yancy stumbles upon a bizarre case involving a human arm discovered by tourists. Determined to solve the mystery and reclaim his former badge, Yancy must navigate a host of eccentric Floridians and, of course, one bad monkey.
Season one features an ensemble cast including L. Scott Caldwell (The Fugitive), Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Meredith Hagner (Search Party), Natalie Martinez (Ordinary Joe), Alex Moffat (Saturday Night Live), Michelle Monaghan (Gone Baby Gone), Ronald Peet (First Reformed), and Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim). Special guest stars include John Ortiz (American Fiction), Zach Braff (Scrubs), Ashley Nicole Black (Ted Lasso), Scott Glenn (The Leftovers), and Charlotte Lawrence in her television debut.
Produced by Warner Bros. Television, Bad Monkey is helmed by Lawrence under his Doozer Productions banner. Executive producers include Jeff Ingold, Matt Tarses (Scrubs), Marcos Siega, Vaughn, and Liza Katzer.
The complete first season of Bad Monkey is now streaming globally on Apple TV+.
