Netflix has officially released the first teaser trailer for The Gentlemen Season 2, offering a chaotic glimpse into Eddie Horniman’s expanding criminal empire ahead of its fall release date.
- Release Date: The Gentlemen Season 2 premieres September 3 on Netflix.
- The Plot: Eddie and Susie Glass are expanding their buried cannabis operation out of Halstead and into the luxury lakeside villas of Italy.
- New Cast Members: Hugh Bonneville, Maya Jama, and professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr join the series for the second season.
When Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen returns on Sept. 3, a year will have passed since Eddie Horniman (Theo James) became the reluctant heir to his aristocratic family’s rambling estate. Now, after joining forces with Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) and her luxuriously incarcerated father, Bobby (Ray Winstone), Eddie is discovering that being a power player in the criminal underworld fits him like an immaculately tailored suit.
The trailer signals a massive scale-up for the business. While the first season kept the duo tightly tied to the underground cannabis farms of the English countryside, the new season takes Eddie and Susie’s operation out from a buried cannabis farm underneath Halstead to the lakeside villas of Italy, where the power duo is making a foothold.
According to executive producer and co-writer Matthew Read, Eddie’s trajectory this season is fueled by a dangerous level of ambition. “I think Eddie is extremely aspirational,” executive producer and co-writer Matthew Read tells Tudum. “He wants more.”
However, taking over European territory brings a fresh set of international threats. “They’re operating in Italy under the radar,” says Read. But climbing the criminal food chain inevitably draws attention. The trailer introduces the duo’s primary Italian roadblocks: Marco Moretti (Sergio Castellitto), a powerful Italian crime boss who Read describes as “extremely ruthless and elegant,” and the mercurial fixer Cico Maldini (Michele Morrone). “[Cico] is the man they’re entrusting to help them navigate their criminal enterprise in Italy, but he’s not a man to be trusted,” says Read.
As Eddie raises his profile within the legitimate establishment, his alliances will face a breaking point. “The risk is, does he want too much?” asks Read. “Will he lose his soul in his quest to ascend?”
Central to the upcoming episodes is the volatile dynamic between the two leads. Through all the life-or-death dealmaking, betrayals, and grabs at unspeakable amounts of money and influence, the season focuses on Eddie and Susie’s complicated bond — and their often conflicting motivations. “There is great connection between them,” Read says. “In order to deepen that connection, we threw a lot of obstacles at them, and yet their affection and connection always comes through that.”
Fans can look forward to a mix of familiar and fresh faces. Returning cast members include Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Jasmine Blackborow, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear, Pearce Quigley, and Giancarlo Esposito.
They will share the screen with a stacked lineup of new players, including Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, British professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr, and broadcaster and entrepreneur Maya Jama.
