  • Robert Pattinson returns as the Dark Knight in the atmospheric first-look footage
  • The sequel will continue Reeves’ critically acclaimed Gotham saga following the $772 million global success of The Batman
  • Colin Farrell and Pattinson have both hailed the screenplay, with Farrell calling it a “masterwork”

Fans have been given their first official glimpse of The Batman Part II after director Matt Reeves shared a moody new teaser featuring Robert Pattinson back in the cape and cowl.

The brief first-look clip shows Batman standing with his back to the camera as rain pours down and police lights flash behind him. As dramatic music builds, the Caped Crusader slowly turns to face the camera before the film’s logo appears, confirming the sequel’s current release date of 18 February 2028.

The footage marks the first official tease of the long-awaited sequel, which will reunite Reeves and Pattinson following the enormous success of The Batman in 2022.

The first film became one of the year’s biggest superhero releases, earning more than $772 million at the worldwide box office while receiving widespread critical acclaim for its noir-inspired detective story, darker take on Gotham City and Pattinson’s fresh interpretation of Bruce Wayne. It also launched an expanding Bat-Verse that continued with HBO’s Emmy-nominated spin-off series The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell.

Although Warner Bros. is keeping story details tightly under wraps, The Batman Part II is expected to explore the aftermath of the catastrophic flooding that engulfed Gotham at the end of the first film. Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne alongside Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, while Reeves has once again written the screenplay.

Speaking during the premiere of The Drama, Pattinson recently praised the sequel’s script.

“The script is extraordinary. I think it’s going to be a really, really special movie and very, very different.”

The actor said he was surprised by the direction Reeves has taken.

“It’s going to be interesting seeing it come out. It’s taking some big swings.”

Farrell has also spoken enthusiastically about the screenplay, describing Reeves’ work as one of the finest scripts he has read.

“I had many thoughts to share with Matt about the script. I really do think it’s a masterwork. Kind of a contemporary genre masterwork.”

He continued:

“It’s so brilliant, and Robert has got such a lovely journey to go on and take the audience through.”

Farrell added:

“It’s dense, it’s really really intelligent, it’s so deep and detailed. I’m saying too much. I think he’s going to make an extraordinary film.”

While plot details remain a closely guarded secret, Reeves’ first teaser offers fans their first official look at Pattinson’s return as Gotham’s Dark Knight and signals that anticipation is only continuing to build for what is expected to be one of DC’s biggest cinematic releases.
