The pair will each present the weekday 4pm to 7pm show over the coming weeks following the departure of Sara Cox, who moved to Radio 2 Breakfast last month after taking over from Scott Mills.

The Drivetime programme has become one of the station’s most closely watched roles, with Radio 2 using the summer period to test a range of familiar personalities before deciding on a permanent presenter.

Angela Scanlon will be first to take over, presenting the programme from Monday 27 July. The broadcaster is already well known to BBC audiences through a variety of television projects, including hosting The Apprentice: Unfinished Business, while also fronting entertainment and lifestyle programming across the BBC.

She will then hand over to comedian, actor and television presenter Joel Dommett, who begins his stint on Monday 3 August.

Dommett is already a familiar voice to Radio 2 listeners, having regularly stood in for both Rylan and Romesh Ranganathan on the station’s Saturday schedule. Alongside his radio work, he is one of the UK’s busiest entertainment presenters, fronting major television shows including The Masked Singer UK, The Masked Dancer UK and In With A Shout.

The rotating line-up is part of Radio 2’s plans to identify the right long-term successor following Sara Cox’s promotion to the Breakfast Show, with listeners expected to hear a variety of presenting styles before a permanent appointment is announced.

Radio 2 remains the UK’s most-listened-to radio station, attracting millions of listeners each week with a schedule featuring some of the country’s best-known broadcasters. Its weekday and weekend line-up includes Vernon Kay, Jeremy Vine, Jo Whiley, Emma Willis and Josh Widdicombe, alongside a mix of music, entertainment, interviews and listener interaction.

The BBC has yet to confirm when a permanent presenter for the Drivetime programme will be announced, with further guest hosts expected to continue throughout the summer before a final decision is made.
