Who won Strictly Come Dancing last night?

Chris McCausland is your 2024 Strictly winner!

Chris McCausland has made history as the first blind contestant to win Strictly Come Dancing.

The 47-year-old comedian clinched the glitterball trophy alongside his dance partner, Dianne Buswell, during Saturday night’s finale. Reflecting on the achievement, he emphasized that “anything can happen” with the right support and determination.

McCausland and Buswell triumphed over finalists Sarah Hadland, known for her role in Miranda, Love Island star Tasha Ghouri, and JLS singer JB Gill.

After his win, McCausland said, “This is for [Dianne] and for everyone who has ever been told they couldn’t achieve something. With opportunity, support, and determination, it just shows anything is possible.”

He expressed his gratitude to Buswell, saying, “She deserves this so much. She’s genuinely one of the easiest people to be funny with—and unless she changes her number, she’s stuck with me.”

Born in Liverpool, McCausland lost his sight completely by the age of 22 due to retinitis pigmentosa, a hereditary condition causing progressive degeneration of the retina.

Describing his victory as “astonishing,” he admitted, “I honestly thought I could be eliminated in the first week or two. Even though no one leaves in the first week, I still thought I might.”

McCausland follows in the footsteps of Rose Ayling-Ellis, who became the first deaf contestant to win Strictly in 2021.
